NEW YORK -- Robinson Cano drove in a run and scored another in a most unwelcome return to Yankee Stadium, helping the Seattle Mariners beat New York 6-3 Tuesday night for their fourth win in five games. Amid lusty boos from a modest crowd on a rainy, 46-degree night, Cano began his first game in the Bronx since joining Seattle this winter for $240 million with a wink -- at Yankees starter CC Sabathia (3-3). Cano got a mock cheer when he struck out to end the inning, then was met with chants of "You sold out!" from the Bleacher Creatures when he took his spot at second base. When Cano grounded out to first base in the fourth, first baseman Mark Teixeira gave him a smile after the close play. The five-time All-Star was even booed when he cleanly handled a grounder. Chris Young (1-0) gave up a second-inning homer to Teixeira and not much else in 5 2-3 innings to earn his first win since 2012. Mike Zunino had a career-high four hits, one courtesy of a replay review that sparked a four-run fifth inning. Fernando Rodney gave up an RBI single to Brett Gardner in the ninth before striking out Derek Jeter and Carlos Beltran with two runners on base. Cano really riled up the crowd in the fifth after driving in Seattles first run with a groundball to Teixeira with the bases loaded. Seattles big inning started with Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon winning a challenge on a bang-bang play at first. Zunino, the catcher whose errant throw to second in the third inning on Gardners stolen base gave New York a 2-0 lead, was ruled to have beaten out a grounder to second base. Sabathia gave up a single to Willie Bloomquist and a bunt hit to Abraham Almonte to load the bases. Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts was playing near the bag and did not reach first to cover when Teixeira fielded the bunt. Cano hit a sharp grounder to first for the run, Corey Hart followed with a two-run double and Justin Smoak made it 4-2 with a single. In the seventh, Cano reached on an infield single to second base and stole second. He was greeted there by Jeter, who gave his former double-play partner a friendly tap on the chest. Earlier, Jeter had playfully run his fingers through Canos fuzzy beard. Facial hair was no-no during Canos nine years with New York. Pinch-hitter Dustin Ackley and Zunino had RBI singles in the seventh, more than enough support to give Young his first victory since Sept. 2, 2012, for the New York Mets. He missed last season after having shoulder surgery and was decisionless in four appearances this year. The 6-foot-10 Princetonian held New York to three hits and three walks. Sabathia was chased after putting two on in the sixth, his shortest outing since July 26. He gave up nine hits and four runs in five-plus innings. He struck out six. NOTES: Mariners first base coach Andy Van Slyke was ejected by third base umpire Adam Hamari in the bottom of the eighth. It came shortly after Cano was called out on a check-swing appeal. ... Yankees RHP Ivan Nova had reconstructive elbow surgery Tuesday. Dr. James Andrews performed the operation in Pensacola, Fla. ... Suspended Yankees RHP Michael Pineda cut short a simulated game in Tampa after experiencing tightness in an upper back muscle. He will have an MRI. His first scheduled start (Monday) after a 10-game ban for having a foreign substance on his neck is in jeopardy, according to manager Joe Girardi. ... Yankees CF Jacoby Ellsbury was out of starting lineup because of a sore left hand. ... Mariners RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (torn tendon in middle finger) rejoined the team and had a bullpen session at Yankee Stadium. Hes scheduled to pitch again Friday but McClendon would not commit to saying it will be in the majors. O. J. Simpson Jersey . Berdych and Stepanek played all five matches when the Czechs beat Spain 3-2 in the final last November in Prague to win the countrys first title as an independent nation. LeSean McCoy Jersey . The 55th-ranked Istomin saved 11 of 14 break points to win in just over two hours, setting up a second round meeting with Australian Marinko Matosevic. Gaborik, 31, has scored five goals and six assists in 17 games with the Blue Jackets in 2013-14.MANCHESTER, England -- As David Moyes lurches from one setback to another in his troubled first season at Old Trafford, Manchester Uniteds hierarchy may well be casting envious glances at Bayern Munich to discover just how smooth managerial transition can be. Two of the most celebrated clubs in European football were forced to begin new eras last summer after Alex Ferguson and Jupp Heynckes opted to end their coaching careers and head into retirement. While Bayern went with one of the safest pair of hands around in Pep Guardiola, who turned Barcelona into the best team in the world in a trophy-laden four-year spell, United took a gamble and hired Moyes despite his limited experience of top-level football. Eight months on, perhaps unsurprisingly it is Bayern which has managed change the better. The two teams are heading in opposite directions as they meet for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday, with Bayern having just retained the German title in record-breaking style and tipped by many to retain its Champions League trophy. Moyes, meanwhile, is hanging onto his job after a first season at the soon-to-be-deposed English champion that has been nothing short of disastrous. "They are probably the side most people have looked to recently," Moyes said Monday, when asked for his opinion on the Bayern side of Guardiola. "He has had a year to get ready for the Bayern job and has done incredibly well with them." To be more precise, Guardiola agreed in January last year to replace Heynckes the following summer. He was living in New York at the time, spending a year away from football after a stressful spell at the Camp Nou when he was approached by Bayern. In many respects, the inheritance was made easier for Guardiola. The majority of Bayerns players were in their prime -- Arjen Robben was 29, Franck Ribery was 30 and Bastian Schweinsteiger was 29, for example -- and he took over a squad full of talented, technical players who would have little trouble slipping into the tiki-taka approach Guardiola favours. But the Spaniard was also decisive in his sole incursion into the transfer market in signing Thiago Alcantra -- reeportedly from under the nose of United, no less -- and his insistence on high standards means Bayerns level hasnt dropped.dddddddddddd In fact, the evidence suggests things are getting even better The team clinched the Bundesliga title last week in record time and the team is unbeaten in the league in 28 games. The team also motors on in Europe, opening the season by winning the UEFA Super Cup and then marching to the last eight of the Champions League without losing a competitive match. "Nobody has the secrets for eternal success," Guardiola said Monday, but he and Jose Mourinho appear to offer the best guarantees to success in football. "You have to say that when Pep took over at Bayern, we were in great shape and we had had a fantastic season before that," said Schweinsteiger, who is surprised at the fall from grace of United. "Its difficult to say when you are outside the club . (but) Man United should be one of the top four teams in England all the time." United is nowhere near that. Succeeding Ferguson after his trophy-laden 27 years in charge was described by many as the impossible job and it is proved to be exactly that for Moyes, with United seventh in the Premier League and left with the Champions League as its only chance of silverware this season. His style is less attacking than Fergusons and the teams lack of movement and dynamism going forward has been a source of frustration for fans. Moyes is set to be given another season but many wonder whether he is the right man for the rebuilding job at Old Trafford. "Sometimes you need a little more time," Guardiola said. "The decisions Manchester United take are always right." Guardiola revealed Monday that he was invited to dinner by Ferguson during his time in New York. "My English is not so good so when Sir Alex spoke quickly, I didnt understand him," Guardiola said, "so maybe I didnt understand if I received an offer (to take over at United) or not." Guardiola was joking. But after what has happened this season, United supporters likely wish the Spaniard had been the "Chosen One" rather than Moyes.
